Women’s Lacrosse Set To Continue Road Trip At Lehigh On Saturday

The Wagner women's lacrosse team is set to continue its four-game road trip on Saturday at Lehigh.

Last Time Out
The Seahawks fell to the University of Vermont, 14-11 on Sunday afternoon. For the second consecutive game, graduate student Madeline Seims scored the first goal of the contest give the Green & White an early 1-0 lead 58 seconds into the game. After the Catamounts responded three minutes later to tie the game, senior Maria Henwood gave Wagner a 2-1 lead. The Seahawks led for seven minutes before Vermont junior Ava Vasile scored two goals in 51 seconds to give Vermont a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

The Seahawks began the second stanza on a 3-0 run thanks in part to goals from freshman Kendra Hall, Madeline Seims, and senior Kasey Dorney. For Hall, it was her first goal as a member of the Seahawks as the run gave Wagner a 5-3 lead with 3:34 remaining in the first half. The Catamounts launched a 3-0 run of their own to retake the lead late in the second quarter to take a 6-5 advantage into the half.

The 3-0 run that ended the first half for Vermont was continued in the third and fourth quarters as the Catamounts outscored the Seahawks 2-0 in the third and scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to claim a 14-11 victory.

Team Effort
The Green & White have scored 34 goals through the first four games of the season with nine different goal scorers. Madeline Seims leads the way with seven goals while Kasey Dorney and freshman Katie Siverson have tallied six goals on the young season. Maria Henwood and graduate student Victoria Tucci round out the top-5 as Henwood has five goals and Tucci has four. Graduate student Stefani Peluso and junior Megan Greco have added two goals each while Kendra Hall and sophomore Kelsey Scheidel have each tallied one goal.

Maria Henwood and Kasey Dorney are the only Seahawks to tally goals in all four games this season. The team's leading goal scorer, Madeline Seims, has scored in three out of four games this season. Dorney and Henwood are also the only two Seahawks to accumulate points in every game this season.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren DiStefano has played every minute in between the pipes for the Seahawks this season. In 240 minutes played, DiStefano has registered 57 saves on 111 shots faced while holding a .514 save percentage.

The West Islip, NY native had a solid outing in goal in Wagner's 12-10 defeat to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) favorites on February 19. DiStefano registered 17 saves against the Stags as she was dominant through the first three quarters, holding Fairfield to eight goals while making 14 stops. The senior captain also caused one turnovers and collected two ground balls. 

Newcomers Making An Impact
Katie Siverson claimed her first ever Northeast Conference (NEC) weekly honor as she claimed Rookie of the Week last week. Against Fairfield and Manhattan Siverson tallied four goals on seven shots, scooped one ground ball, caused three turnovers, and tallied six draw controls.
 
The Morristown, NJ native has started every game so far this season, is tied for second with six goals is third on the team in draw controls (10). The freshman midfielder also received an NEC Prime Performer honor after her two-goal performance in her Seahawk debut on February 12 at Drexel.

Angelina Skowronski has started two out of four games so far this season and is tied for first on the team with 12 draw controls, tied for third with six ground balls and tied for fourth with four caused turnovers.

Ella Marino has tallied two assists through the first four games of her Wagner Career and has scooped three ground balls and caused one turnover.

Kendra Hall and Sophia Colver each tallied their first points as members of the Seahawks against Vermont last Sunday as Hall scored her first career goal and Colver dished out her first career assist.

History Against Lehigh
Saturday's contest against Lehigh will be the third time these two teams will square off. Both teams have claimed a victory as the most recent matchup came on March 3, 2018, when Wagner claimed a 15-11 victory at Hameline Field. Graduate students Giaci Vitolo and Madeline Seims saw action in the contest as Vitolo scooped one ground ball and got the start on defense for the Green & White.

About Lehigh
The Mountain Hawks enter its contest with Wagner with a 1-2 record as they defeated La Salle 13-5 for the team's first victory of the 2022 season. Junior Gabby Schneider leads Lehigh with 11 goals and 16 points to go along with her team leading 18 shots.

What's Next
The Seahawks will close its four-game road trip on Tuesday, March 8 at Hofstra at 3:00 P.M. before heading home for a three-game home stand beginning on Saturday, March 12 against Colgate.
