Alex Morales recorded the first Wagner triple-double in the 21
st century and sophomore
DeLonnie Hunt added a career-high 24 points as the Wagner College men's basketball team earned a dominant 82-53 victory over #7 Saint Francis U in the Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament quarterfinal on Wednesday night.
In front of an excited crowd at the Spiro Sports Center, Morales recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, recording the 12
th triple-double in the NEC since 1997. The last know triple-double in NEC Tournament action dates back to 1983, when LIU's Carey Scurry recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds, 10 blocks in the ECAC quarterfinals on March 9, 1983.
With two more rebounds, the reigning NEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will become the 13th player in NEC history to compile 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists.
Hunt's career day came on 9-10 accuracy from the field, including four three-pointers. Redshirt-senior
Raekwon Rogers added 17 points, while freshman
Zaire Williams contributed 15 points. As a team, the Seahawks combined for a season-high 13 three-pointers on 13-24 (54.2%) accuracy.
The Seahawks quickly jumped out to a 16-3 lead, as a Hunt three-pointer four minutes into the game forced the Red Flash to call an early timeout.
From there, multiple highlight-reel plays by Rogers and nine first half three-pointers gave the Seahawks a 50-28 halftime advantage.
Wagner further extended its lead in the second half, as a three by graduate student
Nigel Jackson, who returned from injury in the victory, made it 80-40 with 3:59 to play en route to earning the victory.
As a team, Wagner held a 46-28 advantage on the glass and 22-7 edge in assists.
