Baseball Blanked By No. 4 Vanderbilt In Game Two Of Friday's Doubleheader

Nashville, TN -  The Wagner College baseball team dropped the second game of Friday's doubleheader at No. 4 Vanderbilt, 13-0, at Hawkins Field.  

The Seahawks (1-11) got a triple from DiMaggio Cazares and a pinch-hit from Quinn MimnaughDaniel Merkel (0-2) gave up six runs on four hits in his fourth outing of the season. Connor Hayden tossed a season-high five innings in relief as he gave up three runs over eight hits while walking two batters and striking out a pair. Brandon Demma logged 2.1 innings, striking out two batters and walking two while giving up four runs. 

Vanderbilt's Carter Holton (3-0) recorded 13 strikeouts while yielding a walk and one hit to pick up the win. The trio of Bryce Cunningham-Brett Hansen-Jack Anderson allowed one hit and recorded four strikeouts in relief of Holton. 

Four Commodores finished with a multi-hit game, as Davis Diax, Dominic Keegan, Gavin Casas, and Troy LaNeve all had two hits. Carter Young drove in three RBIs while Casas and LaNeve added a pair of RBIs.  

Vanderbilt erupted for six runs on four hits in the opening frame, with the Young delivering two of his three RBI on a single to right that plated home both Casas and Keegan. The Commodores added a run in the second and third to move ahead by eight. 

The two teams went scoreless until the sixth when Casas doubled down the left-field line that scored Matthew Polk. LaNeve connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh before Young and Jonathan Vastine added drove-in runs as Vanderbilt completed the sweep of the doubleheader.  

The series finale is set for Sunday, March 13 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (CST)
