#14 Women’s Water Polo Extends Win Streak To Six With Two Wins At The Bruno Classic

Cambridge, MA – The Wagner women's water polo team extended its win streak to six games with two wins at day one of the Bruno Classic on Saturday.

#14 Wagner (11) vs. #22 Harvard (6)
The contest began with junior Skye Nankervis winning the opening sprint, the Sydney, Australia native went on to win all four in the contest. The Seahawks got on the board first after sophomore Andrea Arias drew an exclusion and junior Abbey Simshauser found the back of the net. The Seahawks second goal of the contest was set up by another drawn exclusion from Arias, this ejection set up classmate Mar Navarro to score her first goal of the day. The Seahawks took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. Arias scored the lone goal of the second quarter while the Crimson outscored Wagner 2-1 in the frame.
 
With a 4-3 lead heading into the second half, Wagner put a stamp on the contest when they outscored Harvard 4-0 in the third quarter. Mar Navarro led the way in the quarter with two goals while Abbey Simshauser and Andrea Arias each tallied a goal.

The Crimson made a late push in the fourth quarter, bringing the game to 9-6 but late goals from senior Sofia Diaz Alvarez and Abbey Simshauser gave the Seahawks a 11-6 victory.

Abbey Simshauser spearheaded the Wagner attack with four goals on eight shots to go along with six steals. Mar Navarro recorded a hat trick while dishing out two assists and drawing three exclusions. Skye Nankervis won all four sprint attempts and tallied six steals while senior netminder Kristina Bell stopped seven blocks in goal.

#14 Wagner (13) vs. #24 California Baptist (4)
The Seahawks claimed its second victory of the day over a ranked opponent with a 13-4 victory over California Baptist. Skye Nankervis claimed her fifth sprint win of the afternoon with an opening sprint win. The Seahawks put a stamp on the contest in the opening frame when they outscored the Lancers 4-1. Abbey Simshauser tallied two goals while Nankervis and Malia Josephson got on the scoresheet as well.

Skye Nankervis began the second quarter with her sixth sprint win of the day. Wagner continued to follow Nankervis' lead as outscored California Baptist 4-1 in the second frame. Sofia Diaz Alvarez found the back of the net twice in the quarter while Abbey Simshauser completed her hat trick.
 

Wagner took a 10-4 lead into the final frame after scoring twice in the third quarter. Sofia Diaz Alvarez completed her hat trick and Andrea Arias scored her second goal in as many quarters.

Wagner held on for its sixth consecutive win with three goals in the fourth quarter to end the game a 13-4 win.
Sofia Diaz Alvarez led the way for Wagner with four goals and three steals while Abbey Simshauser tallied her second hat trick of the day in the win. Kristina Bell stopped eight shots in the win.

The Seahawks will look to extend its win streak tomorrow when they battle Siena College and Brown University in Providence, RI at the second day of the Bruno Classic.
