Men's Swimming & Diving Set For Senior Day Meet Against LIU On Friday

Staten Island, NY- The Wagner men's swimming & diving team returns home to the Spiro Sports Center for Senior Day on Friday to face LIU at 4 p.m. with the meet being streamed on NEC Front Row.
 
Last Time Out For The Seahawks…
  • Wagner swam against St. Francis Brooklyn at the SFC Aquatic Center in Brooklyn Heights, NY on January 22.
  • The Green & White posted three first-place individual victories and two second-place finishes against the Terriers.
  • Jack Leighton won the 100 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 48.04. The victory was the sixth individual win on the season for the fifth-year senior.
  • Nathan Seaney posted the other first place finishes. The freshman won the 1 and 3 Meter Diving events by posting scores of 152.60 and 152.65, respectively.
  • Tristan Lee had the two second place finishes for the Seahawks in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and 100 Yard Breaststroke. 
Scouting LIU…
  • The Sharks last competed December 3-5, 2021 at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships and finished second out of nine teams.
  • Sophomore Daniel Chocano Fernández won the B finals of the 500 free, with a time of 4:37.86, the sixth-fastest time in the field.
  • LIU finished second in the 400 Freestyle Relay, where Drew Ladner, Porter LeVasseur, Daniel Samouilich, and Pascual Del Cid came in second, pushing them ahead of Monmouth in the final standings
  • The Sharks have had three other meets earlier this season, winning two of them against St. Francis Brooklyn and Saint Peter's.
Senior Day…

Wagner will be honoring fifth-year swimmer Jack Leighton before Friday's meet. The Lake Forest, CA native has posted six individual wins on the season and has been a part of one relay victory. Leighton also played for Wagner's water polo team for three seasons. 
 
Meet The Senior…
 
Jack Leighton attended El Toro High School where he played three years of varsity water polo. The left-handed shooter was an Academic All-American from 2015 to 2017. Leighton was also a decorated swimmer as a four-year member of the Chargers swim team where he holds the 200-yard freestyle record for both El Toro and the South Coast Conference. Alongside his brother Aaron in 2016, the duo earned High School All-American status in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Additionally, Leighton was a two-time individual High School All-American in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events.
 
Up Next For Wagner…
 
The Seahawks are set to compete in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships at Spire Institute in Geneva, OH beginning on Tuesday, February 22 and running through Saturday, February 26.
