Poughkeepsie, NY – The Wagner women's water polo team claimed two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) wins to extend its winning streak to 10 games.
#14 Wagner (14) vs. La Salle (5)
After two weeks off, the Seahawks returned to action against conference La Salle, junior
Skye Nankervis started off the contest winning her first of four sprint attempts in the contest. Senior
Sofia Diaz Alvarez started the scoring for Wagner early in the first quarter before fifth year
Malia Josephson doubled the Wagner lead off an assist from
Skye Nankervis. The Explorers cut the Wagner lead in half before sophomore
Andrea Arias found the back of the net off an assist from junior
Abbey Simshauser, Wagner took a 3-1 lead into the second frame.
The Seahawks tallied three more goals in the second quarter from
Abbey Simshauser,
Malia Josephson, and
Sofia Diaz Alvarez.
Abbey Simshauser's goal came off an assist from
Andrea Arias while
Malia Josephson's second goal of the afternoon came off an assist from sophomore
Mar Navarro. The Green & White took a 6-3 lead into the intermission.
Wagner put a stamp on the contest in the third quarter as they outscored La Salle 4-1 thanks in part to two goals from
Sofia Diaz Alvarez and
Abbey Simshauser. The two goals from Diaz Alvarez completed a hat trick for the senior.
The Green & White outscored the Explorers 4-1 in the final frame on goals from
Andrea Arias,
Skye Nankervis, and senior
Pip Nash, Arias tallied two goals in the final frame to preserve a hat trick.
Senior goalkeeper
Kristina Bell stopped nine shots in the contest while accumulating two steals,
Sofia Diaz Alvarez led the Seahawk attack with four goals while
Abbey Simshauser and
Andrea Arias tallied hat tricks.
Malia Josephson found the back of the net twice while dishing out four assists, tallying two steals and drawing two exclusions.
#14 Wagner (20) vs. St. Francis Brooklyn (5)
The Seahawks battled in-state and conference rival St. Francis Brooklyn to close out the Courtney Fisher Invitational. The Green & White put a stamp on the contest in the first quarter when they outscored the Terriers 7-0.

Malia Josephson found the back of the net twice.

Carlota Alonso rounded out the first quarter goal scorers for Wagner.
The Seahawks carried the momentum into the second frame when they outscored the Terriers 9-1 while
Andrea Arias continued her strong game with four goals.

The Seahawks took a 16-1 lead into the third quarter and outscored the Terriers 4-1 in the frame behind goals from freshmen
Casey Taylor and
Lizzy Koerper.

Sofia Diaz Alvarez tallied her second goal of the contest.
Andrea Arias tallied seven goals on 11 shots while accumulating five steals.
Carlota Alonso found the back of the net on all three of her shots in the contest and swiped five steals.
Next weekend the Seahawks will travel to Cambridge, MA to take place in the Harvard Invitational. On Saturday, March 5, Wagner will battle Cal State East Bay and Indiana before taking on Brown on Sunday, March 6.
