Greenville, NC – The Wagner College softball team fell to Colgate and Rutgers to open the 2022 season at the ECU Pirate Clash, hosted by East Carolina University.
Wagner fell 5-1 in game one before dropping a 13-3 decision to Rutgers in the second game of the day.
The ECU Pirate Clash continues tomorrow, as the Seahawks take on the Scarlet Knights at 10:00 am before facing off with East Carolina at 12:30 pm.

Wagner's first run of the season came in the fourth inning, as senior
Makenzie Miller's sacrifice fly brought home fellow senior
Natalie Del Ponte to put the Seahawks on the board.
Wagner combined for five hits throughout the contest, as leadoff hitter
Keaghan Ward led the Green and White with two hits, while also drawing a walk.
Freshman
Kate Wolf recorded her first collegiate hit, with Del Ponte and senior
Penelope Russ also had hits in the contest.
Colgate scored all of its five runs in the second inning, as senior
Eve Harvey was charged with the loss in a complete game effort, striking out four batters in the process.
Game 2 Recap: Rutgers 13-3 Wagner
In the third inning of game two, Wolf homered down the left field line for her first collegiate home run and Wagner's first long ball of the season.
An RBI double by Russ in the fourth inning brought home Del Ponte for the Seahawks' second run of the game, while an RBI single by Ward one inning later plated Wolf for her first RBI of the season.
The Scarlet Knights of the Big Ten conference scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the third, and three runs in the fifth inning to earn the victory.
Sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd was charged with the loss in the circle after striking out four in 4.2 innings.
