Dover, DE – The Wagner College men's basketball team finished the game on a 9-0 run to earn a 58-51 victory at Delaware State on Tuesday night.
With the win, Wagner improves to 6-4 and is guaranteed to be the lone Northeast Conference (NEC) team with a winning record in non-conference action ahead of Thursday's non-conference finale against Gwynedd Mercy.
Junior
DeLonnie Hunt led the Seahawks with 22 points and eight rebounds, while senior
Brandon Brown notched another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
After Wagner led 28-25, both teams went back and forth in the second half, which featured eight lead changes and five ties.
Trailing 51-50 with 1:41 to play, Hunt turned a
Javier Ezquerra steal into points to give the Seahawks a one-point lead. Following another defensive stop,
Brandon Brown's driving layup with 41 seconds to play gave the Seahawks a three-point advantage.
On the ensuing defensive possession,
Brandon Brown logged his third steal of the night. From there, Hunt and
Brandon Brown went 4-4 at the free throw line to seal the win.
The Seahawks outrebounded Delaware State 38-29 and held a 19-4 advantage in second chance points.
The Green and White converted on 21-47 (44.7%) of shots and held Delaware State to 19-57 (33.3%) from the field throughout the contest.
Next up, Wagner will host Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday night, with tip-off set for 5:00 pm at the Spiro Sports Center.
