This Week In Wagner Athletics; Seven Sports In Action As Track & Field Opens Indoor Season

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.
 
Women's Basketball
  • The Seahawks will welcome Saint Peter's to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 P.M.
  • Visit wagnerathletics.com for more information.
  • In its last contest, Wagner defeated Hofstra 76-68 at the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, November 26.
 
  • Redshirt junior Alex Cowan tallied 25 points, three assists and two steals while graduate student Zhaneia Thybulle tallied nine points, eight assists and four rebounds.
  • Both players were named Prime Performers by the NEC.
 
Men's Basketball
  • The Seahawks will travel to Army on Saturday, December 3, with tip-off set for 1:00 pm.
  • Wagner earned a 62-57 road victory over NJIT on Sunday.
  • Freshman Keyontae Lewis was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Highlanders

Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving
  • After a month-long break, the Seahawks compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in East Meadow, NY from Friday, December 2 through Sunday, December 4. 
  • Freshman Kaan Nalcaci was named NEC Rookie of the Week on November 9 for his performance against St. Francis Brooklyn.
  • Nalçaci won the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:45.24), 200 Yard Butterfly (1:57.49), and 200 Yard Backstroke (1:55.76). The Ankara, Turkey native now has seven individual victories this season.
 

Men's and Women's Track & Field
 
Bowling
  • The Seahawks will travel to North Brunswick, NJ to compete in the second NEC tournament of the season Saturday, December 3-4.
  • In its last appearance, the Seahawks placed 7th out of 11 teams with a record of 5-3 at the Coppin State Lady Eagle Invitational.
  • Freshman Samantha McDermott earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors, announced by the conference last Wednesday afternoon. McDermott posted a score of 194 in the match against Chestnut Hill, which was the highest score out of both teams. The freshman scored her best of the tournament with 219 pins in a bye match.
