Men’s Water Polo Set For MAWPC Tournament

Bronx, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team is set for the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) tournament.
The Seahawks will take on Salem in the quarterfinals at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, November 18.

About The Tournament
The MAWPC tournament will take place at Fordham University with Bucknell, Gannon, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, McKendree, Mercyhurst, Mount St. Mary's Salem, Navy and Wagner participating.

The hosts Fordham won the regular season title and will receive a bye in the first round along with regular season runner up George Washington and No. 3 seed Bucknell.

Behind the two teams is Wagner who claimed the No.4 seed, Salem, Navy, Mount St. Mary's, McKendree, Gannon and Johns Hopkins.
Fordham will be streaming the tournament on CWPA.TV. Individual games will cost $10 per contest, while a weekend pass is available for $25.

Season Summary
Freshman Laszlo Strasser led the way for Wagner with 75 goals in his first season on Grymes Hill. The Budapest, Hungary native earned MAWPC Rookie of the Week honors on two separate occasions along with being named a Honorable Mention Rookie of the Week by the MAWPC four times.

Senior Olivér Fodor entered the season as the programs leading scorer and carried that momentum into his senior season by scoring 66 goals. Fodor ended the regular season with 272 career goals.

Junior Zsombor Gyémánt became the program's all-time leader in assists this season as he tallied 37 assists. He eclipsed former teammate Jack Leighton on the leaderboard as Gyémánt now has 129 career assists.

Scouting Salem
Wagner has defeated Salem twice this season. First on September 17 by a score of 18-14 and then on October 9 by a score of 21-14.
The 39 goals scored in the two games against Salem this season is the most Wagner has scored against any team they have taken on twice.

The Tigers enter the MAWPC tournament with a 14-12 record and a 5-5 record in conference play.

Entering the final game of the regular season, Salem had a five-game winning streak that was snapped by McKendree in the regular season finale.
Success Under Josh Hower
Under first-year head coach Josh Hower, the Seahawks finished over .500 for the second time in program history while earning 16 regular season wins, the third most in program history.

After starting the season 2-6, the Seahawks won 12 out of its last 14 games. This stretch included a five-game winning streak and a six-game winning streak.

10 conference wins is the most in a regular season in program history.

What's Next
If the Seahawks defeat Salem, they will play the regular season champion Fordham in the MAWPC semifinal on Saturday, November 19 at 6:30 P.M.
