Javier Ezquerra's 20 points led five Seahawks in double figures as the Wagner College men's basketball team earned a 82-52 victory over Neumann University in Wagner's home opener at the Spiro Sports Center on Monday night.
With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Seahawks led for a majority of the contest, as a layup by sophomore
Rob Taylor II capped a 15-0 first half run and gave Wagner a 30-15 lead with 2:40 to play in the opening half.
In the second half, the Seahawks extended the lead further and led by as many as 35 points, as a basket by freshman
Julian Brown made it 64-29 with 9:37 to play.
Ezquerra finished the night with a career-high 20 points on 7-11 shooting, including 6-8 from long range.
Julian Brown added 14 points, including his first collegiate basket, while junior
DeLonnie Hunt contributed 13 points. Taylor and senior
Brandon Brown poured in 10 points apiece for the Seahawks, who shot 31-74 (41.9%) from the field on the night.
The Seahawks held a dominant 54-29 advantage on the glass while holding the Knights to 28.6% (14-49) from the field.
Next up, Wagner will host Fairfield on Friday night, with tip-off scheduled at 7:00 pm at the Spiro Sports Center.
