Staten Island, NY – The Wagner field hockey team earned a convincing 8-0 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory over Stonehill.
In a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks launched a majority of the chances as they out shot the Skyhawks 3-0 and had one penalty corner. Wagner held Stonehill to zero shots in the opening frame.
The Seahawks got on the board 4:37 into the second quarter as
Liselotte Koop got on the board for Wagner. The game stayed at 1-0 heading to halftime as Wagner had five shots in the frame while Stonehill had three. Graduate student goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle stopped one shot in the second.
The Seahawks put a stamp on the contest in the third quarter as they scored five goals in eight minutes to take a 6-0 lead. Graduate student's Laura Van Hamburg and
Agustina Deharbe each tallied two goals in the frame while senior
Kira Mordvinov joined in on the scoring with a goal of her own.
With Wagner holding a 6-0 lead, sophomore
Abigael McCue tallied her first career goal as a Seahawk 1:10 into the final frame before Laura Van Hamburg completed her hat trick three minutes later.
In the second half, Wagner out shot Stonehill 20-1 and tallied nine penalty corners while Stonehill registered just one.
The 8-0 victory is tied for the biggest margin of victory in program history. the Seahawks defeated Merrimack 10-2 on October 28 of last season.
Daisy Ruhle posted her second shutout of the season in the victory as Wagner is 3-0 in conference play for the first time in program history.
Wagner will return to action on Friday, October 14 when they welcome NEC foe Sacred Heart to Grymes Hill at 3:00 P.M.
