Staten Island, NY – The Wagner field hockey team earned a 6-1 victory over Sacred Heart in a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest on Friday afternoon.
Wagner took control of the contest when graduate student Laura Van Hamburg got the Seahawks on the board 6:39 into the contest. Van Hamburg's goal was setup by classmate
Julia Cruces Pastorino.
Wagner went on to have five shots in the opening quarter while Sacred Heart generated zero.
With the game at 1-0 entering the second quarter,
Julia Cruces Pastorino tallied her first goal of the game to double the Wagner lead. Cruces Pastorino's goal was setup by former Pioneer and graduate student
Kayla Kruk.
In the third quarter, graduate student
Agustina Deharbe tallied two goals to give Wagner a 4-0 lead before Sacred Heart tallied a goal to make it 4-1 late in the frame.
Kayla Kruk also tallied a goal in the third quarter as the game headed to the final 15 minutes with Wagner holding a 5-1 lead.
Sophomore
Liselotte Koop tallied the final goal for Wagner in the contest as she deflected a shot from classmate
Emma Lofstedt.
Wagner went on to outshoot Sacred Heart 21-3 as Wagner had 10 penalty corners to Sacred Heart's three.
The win brings Wagner to a conference-best 4-0 in NEC play and 8-5 overall.
The Seahawks will host La Salle on Sunday, October 16 in its final non-conference game of the season at 1:00 P.M.
