Men's Water Polo Continues Strong Run With Two Victories

Staten Island & Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team earned two victories in two different boroughs on Saturday.

The Seahawks defeated Navy 13-11 at the Spiro Sports Center before handling LIU 18-8 at the Steinberg Wellness Center.

In its third game of the season at the Spiro Sports Center, the Seahawks opened the first quarter holding a 2-1 lead over the Midshipmen.

After the low scoring opening frame, both teams took to the offensive as Wagner tallied six goals in the frame and Navy tallied three. The Green & White took a 8-5 lead into the halftime intermission.
 
Wagner continued its prowess in the third quarter with five goals, Navy responded with four goals as the Seahawks took a 13-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
Despite allowing two goals in the final quarter, Wagner held on to earn its second victory of the season over Navy.

Wagner (18) vs. LIU (8)
The Seahawks and Sharks faced off for the second consecutive weekend as Wagner earned a 20-11 victory over LIU at the Spiro Sports Center on Sunday, October 16.

To open this contest, the Seahawks and Sharks each exchanged two goals each in the opening frame to keep the score level after the opening eight minutes.
Wagner created separation in the second frame as they outscored LIU 5-2 to take a 7-4 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Green & White continued to keep the offensive attack going in the third quarter as they put a stamp on the contest in the frame. Wagner outscored LIU 9-1 to open up a 16-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

LIU outscored Wagner 3-2 in the final frame but it wasn't enough as Wagner held on to earn its second victory of the day and its second victory of the season over LIU.
 
The two victories today put Wagner at 14-11 on the season while the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) victory over Navy puts Wagner at 8-5 in conference play with three contests remaining in the regular season.

The Seahawks have won 10 out of its last 11 and are currently riding a four-game winning streak.

Wagner will continue the stretch run of the season on Saturday, October 29 when they celebrate senior day against Mount St. Mary's at the Spiro Sports Center at 1:00 P.M.
