Men’s Water Polo Travels to Princeton University For Princeton Invite

Princeton, NJ – After playing five games in two days at the Bruno Classic, Wagner men's water polo prepares for three games in less than 24 hours this weekend at the Princeton Invite.

The Seahawks concluded the Bruno Classic defeating the MIT Engineers 16-9 after dropping the first four games of the tournament. Sophomore Ethan Zirh started all five games for the Green & White while junior Kevin Roach saw playing time between the pipes as well. The Seahawks also got massive performances from junior Oliver Fodor and sophomore Zsombor Gyemant. Fodor, the team leader in goals for the 2019 season (87) picked up right where he left off as he tallied 20 goals in five games this past weekend. Fodor also drew 17 exclusions, 14 more than any of his teammates. Gyemant, making his debut for the Seahawks had 13 goals and 11 assists for the Green & White in five games. As a result of their contributions over the weekend, Fodor was named Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference Player of the Week Honor Roll and Gyemant was named Rookie of the Week Honor Roll.
 
The Princeton Invite open for the Seahawks Friday afternoon at 3:30 P.M. when they take on California Baptist. Wagner is 0-4 lifetime against the Lancers with their most recent loss, a 17-6 defeat, came at the 2019 Bruno Classic at Brown University.
 
The Seahawks will square off against the Iona College Gaels on Friday night at 8:30 P.M. The Green & White are 5-1 lifetime against the Gaels and have played each other every season since 2016 including twice in 2018 and 2019. The last meeting between the two came in 2019, this contest was the first in which Iona claimed a victory.

Wagner and Harvard will battle it out for the second time in seven days as they faced off during the second day of the Bruno Classic. Harvard claimed a 16-12 victory as freshman Andrej Basica scored seven goals, Junior Oliver Fodor scored five in the losing effort for Wagner. The teams will square off on Saturday morning at 10:30 A.M.
 
Following their games at the Princeton Invite, the Seahawks will travel to Lewisburg, PA for the Bison Invitation on the campus of Bucknell University on Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19. This weekend will kick off MAWPC play for the Green & White as they will face off against Bucknell and Fordham University to begin conference play.
