Princeton, NJ | Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner men's water polo team will travel to Princeton University and Bucknell University this weekend with two games at Princeton on Saturday and one on Sunday at Bucknell.
Last Time Out for Wagner...
- Last weekend the Green & White posted a 3-1 record at the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell.
- The Seahawks swept the first day of competition, posting a 19-13 triumph over Salem University, and capped off the day, defeating No. 15 ranked Bucknell, 14-12, for Wagner's first MAWPC win of the season.
- Junior Olivér Fodor netted six goals and fifth-year Jack Leighton added five scores in the victory over Salem.
- Wagner had seven different goal scorers in its victory over the Bisons, anchored by Fodor, who found the back of the net on five occasions. Fodor also drew seven exclusions.
- Sophomore Zsombor Gyémánt netted a goal and passed out five assists in the win.
- The lone blemish of the weekend came as the Seahawks dropped its first conference match, 15-11, in a back-and-forth tilt to No. 20 ranked Fordham.
- Junior netminder Ethan Zirh made 10 saves while Gyémánt powered Wagner's attack with four goals and adding three assists.
- The Seahawks bounced back, posting a 17-5 triumph over Mercyhurst.
- Fodor led the way for Wagner, netting six goals while newcomer Kyle Chambers posted his first career hat-trick in the victory.
Seahawks Receive MAWPC Recognition...
- Sophomore Zsombor Gyémánt was named Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Player of the Week.
- In four games this past weekend, Gyémánt found the back of the net 11 times on 25 shots and handed out 15 assists.
- On the defensive end of the pool, he blocked three shots and made one steal.
- Gyémánt currently leads Wagner in points (66) and assists (34) in 12 games played.
- Additionally, Wagner received votes in the latest College Water Polo Association (CWPA) Poll.
About The Opponents...
#20 Navy Midshipmen
- The Midshipmen are 4-3 entering their match with Wagner.
- Navy also competed in the Princeton Invitational, where they posted a 2-1 mark, with wins over Brown and Iona, before dropping an 18-4 decision to #3 Standford.
#9 Princeton Tigers
- Princeton went 3-0 out West where they defeated several top-20 programs: Pepperdine, UC Davis, and Loyola Marymount.
- The Tigers are 10-2 on the year and currently riding a six-game winning streak.
Bucknell Bison
- The Seahawks will renew their matchup with Bucknell for the second straight weekend.
- The Bison went 2-2 at their Bison Invitational.
- Overall, Bucknell sports a 5-7 overall record entering matches this weekend.
Next Up For Wagner:
- The Seahawks will head out to the West Coast for the Gary Troyer Tournament, which will be contested in Claremont and La Verne, California.
- Wagner will play two matches on Friday, October 1st against Santa Clara and Whittier College before closing out play on Saturday against Chapman and Pomona Pitzer.
