Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner men's water polo team is set to travel to Bucknell University for the Bison Invitational where they will play four games in two days and begin MAWPC play with two conference matchups against nationally ranked opponents.
The Green & White had a successful trip to Princeton, NJ for the Princeton Invite as they battled against two nationally ranked opponents. Wagner defeated #14 California Baptist 14-12 behind hat tricks from junior Oliver Fodor and sophomore Zsombor Gyemant. The second ranked opponent the Seahawks faced was #18 Harvard University. The Crimson got the better of Wagner for the second weekend in a row as they came away with a 16-10 victory. The Seahawks also battled in-state rival Iona College and the Green & White defeated the Gaels 20-13 behind senior
Vuk Bulajic netting five goals.
Wagner will play four games this upcoming weekend including two on Saturday and two on Sunday. On Saturday, Wagner will open their tournament against Salem University at 11:30 A.M. and then they will open MAWPC play at 4:00 P.M. when they battle the hosts Bucknell University. The Seahawks will resume on Sunday morning with another MAWPC matchup against Fordham University at 9:00 A.M. before ending their weekend with a tilt against Mercyhurst University at 1:30 P.M.
Wagner is 2-0 lifetime against Salem University with their most recent matchup coming in 2018 as the Seahawks dominated 26-8. The Seahawks haven't had as much luck against their second opponent on Saturday, Wagner is 0-8 lifetime against their MAWPC foes with their last loss coming in 2019, 10-8.
The Green & White have had some success against their first Sunday opponent. The Seahawks are 4-6 lifetime against the Fordham Rams and the last time these two teams met in 2019, the Rams got the better of Wagner 12-11. The Seahawks have only faced off against Mercyhurst once in their history, they got the better of the Lakers 20-8.
For the second straight weekend, Wagner will face off against two nationally ranked opponents. In the latest College Water Polo Association Poll the Bucknell Bison claimed the #15 ranking and the Fordham Rams claimed #20. The Green & White also cracked the rankings list as they received votes to be considered for a top 20 ranking.
Following their trip to Bucknell, the Seahawks will travel back to Princeton, NJ next weekend where they will play two games on Saturday, Sept. 25. They will first play Navy at 9:00 A.M. in a MAWPC matchup before battling Princeton at 6:00 P.M. The Seahawks will then back to Bucknell University where they will play the Bison in a MAWPC matchup on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 5:00 P.M.
