Princeton, NJ – Wagner men's water polo team ran their winning streak to three games on Friday, defeating #14 California Baptist and in-state rival Iona.
Wagner (14) California Baptist (12)
The opening game of the Princeton Invite for the Seahawks was against California Baptist. California Baptist came into the weekend ranked #14. Three goals from junior Oliver Fodor and sophomore Zsombor Gyemant propelled the Seahawks to the win.
The Green & White trailed 6-3 at the half before a seven-goal performance in the third quarter. In all, the Seahawks outscored the Lancers 11-6 in the final 16 minutes. Sophomore
Ethan Zirh started his sixth consecutive game to begin the season, he blocked 12 shots while recording a steal in the contest. Freshman
Mattia Bognolo continued his strong start to his Wagner career as he recorded two goals and three steals in the victory.
Wagner (20) Iona (13)
Wagner controlled the night cap of their two-game affair from the opening sprint, outscoring the Gaels 12-5 after the first 16 minutes, including 8-3 in the second quarter. Senior
Vuk Bulajic contributed mightily with five goals for Wagner, while freshman
Andrew Cowie completed his first collegiate hat trick in the victory. Fodor continued his rapid start to the season; he ended the day with 29 goals in six games for the Green & White. Fifth-year
Jack Leighton contributed across the stat sheet, recording a hat trick and winning three sprints.
Wagner will conclude the Princeton Invite Saturday Sept. 11 at 10:30 A.M. when they battle the Harvard Crimson for the second weekend in a row. Harvard defeated Wagner 16-12 at the Bruno Classic.
