Men’s Water Polo Travels To Brown & Harvard For Bruno Classic To Open 2021 Season

Providence, RI & Cambridge, MA - Twenty-two months after their last contest at the Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship, the Wagner men's water polo team is set to return to play at the Bruno Classic this weekend at Brown University and Harvard University.

The tournament will take place over two days with the Green & White playing five contests. The first day of the event, set for Sept. 4, will consist of three contests against St Francis Brooklyn, Santa Clara University, and the host Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The second day, Sept. 5, will be against Harvard and MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This trip to the Bruno Classic will be the second straight year of competition in which Wagner is participating.

The first opponent of the tournament will be against in-state rival St. Francis Brooklyn. Wagner holds a record of 2-4 lifetime against the Terriers. In their most recent meeting, St. Francis Brooklyn came away with a 15-7 win in 2019. Wagner will also travel to Brooklyn for another game on October 23.

The second opponent will be Santa Clara University. The last contest between the two teams was in 2019 when Santa Clara defeated Wagner 13-11. Wagner will travel to California for the Gary Troyer Tournament on October 1 where they will battle Santa Clara once again.

The Green & White's final game in Providence will be against host Brown. The last time these two clubs battled, Brown defeated Wagner 10-9 in 2019. Wagner will take on Brown again on Oct. 17 at the Harvard Invite in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The first game of the second day of the tournament will take place against the hosts, Harvard University. These two clubs battled last in 2018 when Harvard came away with a 13-12 victory. Harvard and Wagner will square off two more times throughout the 2021 season, first at the Princeton Invite in Princeton, NJ on Sept. 11, then again at the Harvard Invite on Oct. 16.

The final game of the Bruno Classic will go against MIT. The Seahawks lone victory came in 2017 with a 15-10 triumph. The last contest between these two saw MIT defeat Wagner 7-5 in 2019. Wagner will battle MIT one more time this season, at the Harvard Invite on Oct. 17.
