Somerset, NJ – Senior outside linebacker
Titus Leo of the Wagner College football team has been named to the Preseason All-Northeast Conference (NEC) team, the league announced at its virtual Media Day on Tuesday.
Head Coach
Tom Masella, Leo, and defensive back
Ahmad Lyons joined the set on NECFrontRow and ESPN3 to preview the 2021 campaign.
Leo enters the Fall as the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year after a successful spring campaign. The linebacker was named a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented annually to the national defensive player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision (FCS).
Despite the shortened spring season, Leo wreaked havoc in opposing backfields, combining for 15 total tackles and two sacks in two games. In the opener against Duquesne, the hard-hitting New York City native accumulated two sacks and two forced fumbles in the first half. One week later at Bryant, Leo led Wagner with nine tackles, including two tackles for loss, while helping limit all-NEC tailback Daniel Adeboboye to his lowest rushing total of the season. Leo earned a spot on the All-NEC First Team for his efforts.
At the NEC's annual Media Day, which was held virtually for the second consecutive year, the league's coaches picked Sacred Heart to repeat as conference champions, followed by Duquesne and Central Connecticut. Bryant, Saint Francis U, LIU, and Wagner round out the poll.
Wagner reported to training camp on Tuesday, with the first practice scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
The Seahawks open their 2021 fall campaign at FBS member Buffalo on Thursday, September 2 at 7:00 pm.
