STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner football will host Norfolk State on Saturday, September 27, in its final non-conference matchup of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Hameline Field, with live coverage on NEC Front Row featuring Marc Ernay and Ray Martel on the call.
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between the Seahawks and the Spartans.
Norfolk State (1-3, 0-0 MEAC), led by head coach Michael Vick — a College Football Hall of Famer and former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback — enters the contest following a 31-28 home loss to Sacred Heart. The Spartans opened their season with back-to-back home games, falling 27-7 to Towson before edging Virginia State 34-31 in overtime. They later dropped a 60-10 road decision at Rutgers.
Wagner (0-4, 0-0 NEC) returns to Grymes Hill after a 49-10 setback at FBS foe Central Michigan. The Seahawks totaled 113 yards of offense, as sophomore
Matt Morad led the ground game with 35 rushing yards and senior quarterback
Jordan Barton added 35 total yards in extended action. On defense, sophomore
Alim Parks Jr. registered a team-high nine tackles, while senior
Sam Martin recorded seven. Freshman
Austin Bailey provided the highlight of the day, returning a fumble forced by sophomore
Eli Hiscock 75 yards for Wagner's lone touchdown.
For his performance, Parks Jr. was named NEC Rookie of the Week, becoming the first Seahawk to earn the honor since
Jaylen Bonelli in 2023 and the first Wagner defensive player recognized since Titus Leo in 2018.
Prior to kickoff, fans are invited to Family Fun Fest outside Wagner College Stadium, featuring a face painter, balloon artist, cotton candy machine, coloring books, and more!
Following this weekend, Wagner will enjoy a bye before opening NEC play at home against Mercyhurst on October 11.
