Men's Track and Field Posts Eight First-Place Finishes At Mount's 33-48 Challenge

Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner men's outdoor track and field team produced eight first-place finishes at the 33-48 Challenge, hosted by Mount St. Mary's at Morgan Track on Friday.

Michael Pepe moved to the top of the NEC leaderboard with his outing in the discus event, while upping his school-record in the event. Pepe posted a finals mark of 53.31m to win the event and set a new school record in the process. Pepe surpassed his previous high of 49.28m, which he set nearly two years ago (April 20, 2019). 

Thomas Corel won the 400m with a time of 49.21 while teammate Cyril Babcanec finished second in the event with a time of 49.90.

The Seahawks took four of the top five spots in the 800m finals, as William Cuthbertson clocked in with a time of 1:56.75 to win the race. Freshman Luke Cunningham was next at 1:56.93. Mahmoud Abdalla and Michael Hubert concluded the event in fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 1:59.19 and 1:59.30.

Robert Guidicipietro took top honors in the 3000m with a time of 8:39.50. Freshman Anthony Bentivegna placed third with a time of 8:48.43.

Josiah Cadet finished first in the 110H with a time of 14.93 and took home second-place honors in the 400H with a time of 55.35 while Dominic Palermo was the top finisher in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:36.97.
 
The 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams produced a pair of first-place finishes. The 4x100 squad of Logan Murphey, Babcanec, Joshua and Josiah Cadet, crossed the finish line with a time of 42.02. The 4x800 relay squad posted a finals time of 8:08.41, which moved the quartet to third on the NEC Performance List. 

Ryan Lane turned in a third-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.15m while placed fourth in the long jump with a finals mark of 6.58m Andrew Ramsammy finished among the top-five in the high jump (1.88m) and the long jump (6.56m).
 
Corey Durden took second in the shot put with a throw of 15.20m. Pepe claimed third in the event at 14.26m to round out the Seahawks performances. 

The Seahawks will have two weeks to prepare for the 2021 Northeast Conference (NEC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship, which will be contested at Bryant University on May 1 and May 2.
