Somerset, NJ – Junior midfielder
Kasey Dorney earned her first career Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon, following a dominating performance on both sides of the field in the conference opener.
On Saturday, against Central Connecticut, Dorney scored six times and caused four turnovers, both game-highs, adding an assist, two ground balls and three draw controls in the Seahawks' 15-3 win.
It took Dorney less than five minutes to complete her third career hat trick, scoring her first two goals before Central Connecticut even managed a shot on goal. Her fourth goal of the half six minutes later put Wagner up 5-0 and her assist on the first of three goals from senior
Erin Kerstetter made it 6-0. With the running clock in effect before the end of the half, Dorney added a fifth to put the Seahawks up 11-0 after the opening 30 minutes.
After Central Connecticut got on the board six minutes into the second half, Dorney added her final goal of the day just over two minutes later, the first of another four straight for the Green and White.
Apart from Dorney,
Victoria Tucci and
Erin Kerstetter were tabbed to the NEC Prime Performer list.
Dorney and the Seahawks kick off their 2021 home slate with NEC contests against Long Island University (LIU) and Bryant on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.
