Men's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Campaign At Lehigh Season Opener

Bethlehem, PA – The Wagner College men's outdoor track and field team competed in their first competition of the 2021 season at Sunday's Lehigh Season Opener. Wagner competed against the host Mountain Hawks and fellow Patriot League members, Lafayette and Colgate as well as America East member, UMBC. 

In all, the Seahawks won eight events. Michael Pepe took first in the discus with a launch of 48.98m and placed second in the shot put at 14.41m.  Teammate Corey Durden also notched a first-place finish, leading the way in the shot put with a toss of 15.50m while also placing fifth in the discus with a throw of 38.21m. Graduate Lutfi Pocesta took second in the hammer throw (56.69m) while placing among the top-ten in the discus (38.08m). 

Newcomer Ryan Lane had an impressive showing in the long jump, taking second overall with a soar of 6.49m and finished among the top-ten in the high jump (1.75m). Veteran Seaahwk, Andrew Ramsammy took third in both the long jump (6.35m) and high jump (1.90m). 

On the track, Joshua Cadet crossed the finish line first in the 200m (21.98). He also produced a second-place showing in the 100m (11.20).  Thomas Corel (48.92) and Cyril Babcanec (50.33) went first and second, respectively, in the 400m finals. Newcomer Luke Cunningham took home first-place honors in the 800m, clocking in at 1:55.85. 

Robert Guidicipietro won the 1500m with a time of 3:52.53. Teammate William Cuthbertson (3:55.78) clocked in third. Dominic Palermo (4:03.06) and newcomers Muhammad Qadri (4:09.45) and Paul Siconolfi (4:09.60) rounded out the top-ten finishes in the event.  Josiah Cadet hurdled his way to a first-place finish in the 400H with a time of 55.26. 

Wrapping up the performances for Wagner was the 4x400 relay teams, as Wagner's "A" squad, comprised of Babcanec, Joshua and Josiah Cadet, and Thomas Corel, placed first with a time of 3:19.60.  The Wagner "B" team, made up of Cunningham, Cuthbertson, Mahmoud Abdalla, and Michael Hubert took second with a time of 3:24.24. 

The Seahawks will return to Bethlehem, PA on April 3 for the Lehigh Quad Meet.
