Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Day One Of The ECAC Championships

East Meadow, NY- The Wagner women's swimming & diving team completed day one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Friday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
 
The Seahawks saw four swimmers qualify for finals events on Friday. The top 24 finishers of each preliminaries event qualified for the finals.
 
Junior Taylor Marjamaa placed 22nd in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:16.45. In the same event, teammate Raquel Rubalcava missed the finals by .07 seconds, touching the wall at 5:17.78 and finishing in 26th place.
 
Marjamaa went on to swim in the C Final heat of the 500 Yard Freestyle, where she finished 4th in that heat with a time of 5:10.61.
 
In the 200 Yard Individual Medley qualifiers, freshman Bree Anderson and junior Maile Mora finished in 14th and 15th places, respectively. Anderson swam in the B Final heat of the event, where she finished the heat in 2nd place after hitting the wall at 2:08.22. Mora placed three spots behind her teammate with a time of 2:08.61.
 
Senior Judith Desforges hit the wall at 24.39 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, landing in 16th place of the preliminaries. Also in that event was senior Madeleine Delore, who just missed a spot in the finals by .05 seconds. Desforges competed in the B Final heat of the 50 Yard Freestyle and hit the wall at 25.07.
 
In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Wagner's Annabella Jencova, Delore, Hannah Muro, and Desforges finished in 9th place with a time of 1:38.13. The Green & White's other relay team in the event made up of Kate Wilkerson, Isabella Anton, Rachel Sacerdote, and Shamiya Guirre finished in 12th place and a time of 1:40.87.
 
Two Seahawks competed in the 1 Meter Diving Event on Friday. Each participant had six dives and sophomore Meliti Efthimiou finished third with a score of 198.95. Teammates Maggie Gregory and Naomi Shorr finished in 5th and 6th places, respectively.  
 
Wagner is back in the pool Saturday for day two of the ECAC Championships from East Meadow, NY.
