The Matchup…
The Seahawks enter the fifth ever MAWPC postseason tournament as the no. 5 seed and will take on the no. 4 seed Bucknell Bison for the third time this season. Wagner and Bucknell faced off twice in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in September with the Seahawks prevailing over the then no. 15 Bison 14-12 at the Bison Invite while the Bison returned the favor eight days later by defeating the Green & White 9-5.
Bucknell, the two-time defending MAWPC champion, claimed the four seed over Wagner due to a higher goal differential. The last time these two foes squared off in postseason play the Seahawks prevailed over the top overall seeded Bison, 10-8 in 2017. Since falling to Wagner in 2017, the Bison have claimed the last two conference championships. Without the tournament being played last season, the Seahawks claimed a fifth-place finish in 2019 and a second-place finish in 2018.
Record Setting Regular Season…
The Seahawks enter the tournament as winners of six of their last eight contests and coming off their second three-game winning streak of the season. 16 regular season wins is tied for the most in program history, matching the total in 2018.
Senior goalkeeper
Ethan Zirh solidified his place in the Wagner men's water polo record book this season becoming the all-time career leader in saves (590) and single season saves (303). Both records were previously held by former Seahawk Cameron Woldt. In addition to shattering the record books this season, the Sydney, Australia native was named MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week on back-to-back occasions on October 6 and October 13.
Junior Olivér Fodor is now tied for the single season goals record after finding the back of the net 114 times this season, as he shares that honor with former Seahawk Jasmin Kolasinac who accomplished the same feat in 2018. For Fodor, the Budapest, Hungary native is three goals away from passing Kolasinac on the all-time goals list. Entering the postseason the junior has 201 career goals.
