Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team is set to host a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) games on Saturday, October 9 at the Spiro Sports Center.
The Seahawks will take on Mount St. Mary's at 11:00 A.M. before battling George Washington at 5:00 P.M.
Last Time Out For Wagner…
- The Green & White went to California for the Gary Troyer Tournament last weekend and finished with a 2-2 record that included wins over Whittier College and Chapman University.
- In the first game, Wagner was edged by No. 14 Santa Clara, 10-8, despite a back-and-forth first half.
- The Broncos put a stamp on the contest in the third quarter as they outscored the Seahawks 5-3.
- Junior Oliver Fodor anchored the Wagner offense with four goals and junior netminder Ethan Zirh was credited with 10 saves.
- The Seahawks got their first victory of the weekend against Whittier, 13-8.
- Wagner trailed 4-3 after the first quarter and responded by outscoring Whitter, 4-3, in the second quarter.
- The Green & White seized momentum with a six-goal outburst in the frame in building a 13-4 advantage.
- Freshman Kyle Chambers found the back of the net four times and junior Karl Lovett tallied two goals of his own in the victory.
- Wagner opened the second day of the tournament with a 17-11 triumph over Chapman.
- The Green & White scored five of the six goals to open the second quarter before heading into the break with an 8-5 lead.
- Wagner continued to find their offensive stride. adding five goals in the third.
- Senior Vuk Bulajic contributed two goals and two assists while junior Oliver Fodor scored four times.
- Chambers netted a hat trick in the victory.
- In the final match of the West Coast trip, Wagner took on Pomona-Pitzer.
- The Seahawks and Sagehens traded goals throughout the match but Pomona-Pitzer edged out Wagner, 14-13.
- Freshman Mattia Bognolo found the back of the net three times and dished out one assist in the loss,
- Fodor added six goals to increase his team lead.
Returning Home…
- The Seahawks will leave their suitcases in their dorm rooms this weekend when they host their first games of the season after traveling to five states so far this season.
- The Green & White will host their first games since September 29, 2019, when they defeated MAWPC foe, Johns Hopkins, 737 days ago.
Fodor & Zirh Claim MAWPC Honors
- Junior goalkeeper Ethan Zirh was named MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
- Zirh stopped 30 shots and recorded three steals.
- The Sydney, Australian, who has started in all 19 games for the Green & White, has notched 143 saves this season.
- In addition to Zirh collecting Defensive Player of the Week honors, teammate Oliver Fodor was tabbed to the Player of the Week Honor Roll.
- Over the four games in California, Fodor netted 19 goals on 28 shot attempts while drawing 20 exclusions.
- For Fodor, this marks the second time this season he has been named to the Honor Roll list, as he leads the team with 71 goals this season.
Scouting The Opposition…
Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers
- The Mountaineers enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-8.
- In their last contest, the Mount earned a 15-14 conference win over Johns Hopkins.
- Jason O'Donnell powered the Mountaineers' offense with six goals and three assists while four players contributed two goals, respectively.
- Netminder Michael Lemishko picked up the win, saving five shots and drawing one exclusion.
George Washington Colonials
- George Washington enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-8.
- In their last contest, the Colonials fell to No. 19 Loyola Marymount, 13-8.
- Nick Schroder and Antonin led the way with two goals.
- Goalkeeper Luca Castorina stopped eight shots and stole two passes.

- Wagner will hit the road once again when they head to Cambridge, MA for the Harvard Invite.
- The Seahawks are slated to play four matches as they will take on the host Crimson and Connecticut College on Saturday, October 16 before concluding the two-day event against MIT and Brown on Sunday.
