Men’s Water Polo Set To Host Johns Hopkins For Senior Day On Saturday

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team will host Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) opponent Johns Hopkins University at the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday for Senior Day.

Last Time Out…
  • The Seahawks fell to in-state and MAWPC rival Fordham on Friday evening, 12-8.
  • The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Green & White and the second time this season Wagner fell to Fordham.
  • Freshman Mattia Bognolo, sophomore Zsombor Gyemant, and senior Jack Leighton each scored twice while junior Oliver Fodor scored once and drew nine exclusions.
  • Senior netminder Ethan Zirh stopped 10 shots in the loss.
An Ode To The Seniors…
  • A native of Belgrade Serbia, Vuk Bulajic is a two-time ACWPC All-Academic Team member and NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll member. Since arriving on Grymes Hill before the 2018 season, the senior has scored 129 goals and dished out 65 assists.
  • A native of Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, Sam Del Rio has been a key member of the continued growth of the Wagner men's water polo program. In the 2019 season, Sam played in 14 matches and found the back of the net five times on 11 shots while adding three assists. On the defensive side of the pool, he tallied one block and finished with a plus/minus of +6. The senior was a member of the 2019 ACWPC All-Academic Team and was named an NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll member in the same season.
  • A native of Lake Forest, California, Jack Leighton arrived on Grymes Hill in 2017. He started and saw action in 23 games while setting the single season record for sprints won with 48. He has found the back of the net 97 times and dished out 69 assists. Jack is currently receiving his master's in media management at Wagner.
  • A native of Riverside, California, Brochton Troutman has been a key cog in the continued development of the Wagner men's water polo program. Brochton was a 2021 member of the 2021 ACWPC All-Academic Team and continues to be a leader in the pool and in the locker room.
  • A native of Sydney, Australia, goalkeeper Ethan Zirh has been a mainstay in between the pipes for the Seahawks. This season, he has tallied 225 saves and 27 steals while earning MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week awards in back-to-back weeks. Ethan currently ranks second all-time in saves (512) and fifth all-time in steals (82).

  • Johns Hopkins enters their matchup with Wagner with a 4-13 record and an 0-4 record in MAWPC play.
  • Their last time out, the Blue Jays extended their winning-streak to three-games with a triple overtime victory over no. 8 MIT, 11-10.
  • The Blue Jays and Seahawks will square off again this season next weekend, this time Johns Hopkins will host Wagner.
Next Up For Wagner…
  • The Seahawks will again pack their bags and head to Maryland for three conference games in two days.
  • First, they will battle Navy and Johns Hopkins on Saturday, November 6 before taking on George Washington on Sunday, November 7.
