Bronx, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team will make the short trip to the Bronx as they will tangle with the #16 Fordham University Rams in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) action on Friday.
Last Time Out For Wagner…
- At last weekend's Harvard Invitational, the Seahawks collected three wins over Connecticut College, MIT, and Brown.
- Against Connecticut College, Wagner went on to win, 21-7, as seven different players had multiple goals in their highest-scoring game of the season.
- Junior Shaked Yacoby anchored the Seahawks attack with four goals while junior Oliver Fodor, sophomore Ryan Lanier, and fifth-year Jack Leighton each tallied hat tricks.
- The Seahawks' lone setback came against the host Crimson.
- After a back-and-forth first quarter, Harvard held a 3-2 lead going into the second when Harvard outscored the visitors, 7-1, to build a 10-3 lead at halftime.
- Wagner was able to claw back in the contest, scoring four times but couldn't complete the comeback attempt, falling 15-9.
- Fodor and Leighton led the way with two goals each, freshman Mattia Bognolo dished out two assists to go along with four steals.
- Junior netminder Ethan Zirh tallied nine saves in the loss.
- The Seahawks bounced back with a 15-8 triumph over MIT as Fodor continued his offensive prowess, netting five goals while drawing seven exclusions.
- Bognolo chipped in three goals, three assists, and four steals.
- In the finale, the Green & White edged Brown, 10-9.
- A back-and-forth contest throughout the opening quarter, Wagner began to take control as Fodor netted his third goal against the Bears, giving Wagner a 6-5 heading into the intermission.
- Junior Karl Lovett found the back of the net with 100 seconds left to give the Seahawks a 10-9 lead and that goal would hold on to be the difference.
- Fodor contributed four goals and four drawn exclusions while Lovett scored for the third time as he added an assist in the win.
- Zirh stopped 10 shots in the victory.
Bognolo Earns MAWPC Honors…
- For the third consecutive week, a member of the Wagner men's water polo team earned MAWPC Player of the Week honors. This time, freshman Mattia Bognolo earned MAWPC Rookie of the Week.
- In four games this past weekend at the Harvard Invite, the Canberry, Australia native notched six goals on 14 shots while dishing out six assists and accumulating 12 steals.
- Following a pair of Defensive Player of the Week accolades, Ethan Zirh was tabbed to the Honor Roll for the week.
- In addition, Fodor was named to the MAWPC Offensive Player of the Week honor roll for the third straight week. MAWPC Player of the Week for the third week in a row!
Scouting The Opposition...
No. 16 Fordham Rams
- The Rams enter their matchup with Wagner looking to extend their winning streak to four straight as Fordham is 17-4 on the season and unbeaten in MAWPC play at 5-0.
- Fordham bested Iona, 14-5, in their last contest.
- The two New York-based programs are meeting for the second time season, as the Rams edged out the Seahawks, 15-11, back on September 19 at the Bison Invitational.

- Wagner gears up to host Johns Hopkins on Saturday, October 30 at the Spiro Sports Center.
- Before the start of the match, Wagner will honor its 2021 Senior Class.
