Delaney Beck Named 2019-2020 NEC Female Scholar Athlete Of The Year

Somerset, NJ – Recently graduated women's soccer player Delaney Beck has been selected as the 2019-20 Northeast Conference (NEC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Beck is joined by fellow female student-athlete Adriana Forcucci from Sacred Heart (track & field), who also compiled a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. On the men's side, Saint Francis U's Scott Meredith (basketball) and Gregory Heider (golf) were tabbed the 2019-20 NEC Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

"We are extremely proud of Delaney and congratulate her on this fantastic accomplishment," said Athletic Director Walt Hameline. "Being a student-athlete comes with a lot of responsibilities. Having a 4.0 GPA in the classroom paired with her achievements on the field are a true testament to her dedication and attention to detail. We can't wait to see Delaney succeed in her future endeavors."

Beck is the fourth Seahawk to be named NEC Scholar Athlete of the Year and the first female to win the award since Avika Segwal received the distinction in 2016-17. Former tennis standout, Charlton Boyd, was the last Seahawk to garner the award in 2017-18, while the first member of the Green & White to take home the honor was Ellen Huffman in 2013-14.

Congratulations to Delaney Beck of @wag_wsoccer for being named the NEC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year!!

In its 14th year, the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is sponsored by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives, goes to the male and female student-athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibility, graduated and compiled the highest grade point average in the Conference at the conclusion of the academic calendar.

This is not the first time Beck has been recognized for her academic achievements, having been tabbed a three-time member of the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and NEC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. In order to qualify for the Fall Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the Commissioner's Honor Roll requires student-athletes to register a 3.75 or better grade point average.

Beck, who arrived on Grymes Hill following the 2016 season after transferring in from Campbell University, finished off her three-year Seahawk career with 159 saves in 32 appearances in goal. She forged a lasting legacy in the Wagner record books ranking third all-time in shutouts and wins, fourth all-time in games played, and sixth all-time in total saves. In her final season, Beck fought through injury to post the fifth best goals against average for a season in Wagner history, while finishing with four shutouts, tying her with Seahawk great Katie Marcy for the fourth most in a season all-time.

In the classroom, Beck's 4.00 GPA and work ethic helped her earn four separate Wagner College Student Awards, including the Economics Department Award for academic excellence in the field of economics, the Barna Csuros Memorial Award, presented to a student pursuing law school, the Wagner College Prize in Mathematics for outstanding achievement in mathematics, and the Weisglass Family Endowed Fund, which is presented to a senior who has demonstrated outstanding community investment and involvement during his or her years at Wagner College.
