Richmond, VA - Wagner and VCU found themselves deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Rams scored thrice and followed up with a six-run outburst in the eighth in defeating the Seahawks, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond.

The Basics:
  • Records: Wagner (4-6) | VCU (8-3)
  • Series History - Wagner 1, VCU 12
Wagner senior right-hander McCae Allen tossed six scoreless innings, giving up three hits while walking four and striking out four in his third outing of the year. Justin Beyer, who came in for Allen, took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits in his inning of work.

VCU's Brandon Henson drove in three RBI on two hits to spearhead the Rams' offense. Brett Norwood and Paul Witt each added two RBI while Steven Carpenter had a team-high three hits on the afternoon. Starter Michael Dailey tossed five scoreless, one-hit innings while fanning six Wagner batters. Devin Dunn picked up the victory while Edwin Serrano earned the save for the home team.

Scoreless after six and half innings, VCU got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Carpenter led off with a single back up-the-middle. A one-out walk to Hogan Brown gave the Rams a pair of runners before Norwood brought in the first run on a RBI single for the game's first run. Witt delivered a two-run base knock as VCU went ahead, 3-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, Henson led off with a solo home run to make it 4-0 in favor of the Rams. VCU wasn't done in the stanza, connecting on back-to-back base hits that proceeded a walk which loaded the bases.

Wagner reliever Nick DeCarlo's pitch to Norwood hit him that brought in the Rams' fifth fun. VCU increased the lead to 6-0 after a wild pitch from DeCarlo. The Rams continued the rally as Liam Hibbits drew a bases loaded walk that made it 7-0 before Henson sent a double to left field to cap the six-run rally.

The Seahawks, with one out in the top of the ninth, got their second hit of the game, as senior Alex Cimaroli, who pinch-hit for Ethan Valdez, notched his first career hit with a infield single to short before moving to second on a wild pitch. Newcomer DiMaggio Cazares lined out to first to end the contest.
