Staten Island, NY  –  The Wagner College women's basketball team closes out its two-game homestand Friday with a 4:30 p.m. tip-off against the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils. 

 
Last Time Out For Wagner...
  • Trailing by 16 points with under a minute left to play in the third quarter, the Wagner College women's basketball team battled back in cutting the deficit in half with 6:34 left in the contest before the visiting Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers closed out the game on a 14-7 run as the Seahawks fell 67-52 on Monday afternoon.
  • Redshirt senior guard Janelle Mullen was one of two Seahawks to finish in double figures, as she finished with a team-high 15 points in 35 minutes of play.  Junior Khaleah Edwards recorded her second double-double of the season, concluding the game with 12 points and a game-high ten rebounds while also logging 35 minutes of action. 
  • Three Mountaineers finished in double-digits, led by Kendall Bresee, who dropped 18 points, 12 of which coming from beyond-the-arc. Rebecca Lee and Michaela Harrison each added 13 points. 


Wagner All-Time Against CCSU...
  • All-time, Wagner trails Central Connecticut, 27-17.
  • The Seahawks are just 3-7 in their last ten meetings with the Blue Devils. 
  • Wagner is looking for back-to-back wins over CCSU at the Spiro Sports Center, after picking up a 70-62 triumph a season ago.


About The Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils:
  • Central Connecticut will be looking for the season sweep of the Seahawks after defeating Wagner, 66-63, in come-from-behind fashion back on January 25 in New Britain, CT. 
    Ashley Berube, the team's leading scorer at 12.0 ppg, has been held to single-digit scoring games in five straight games after notching a streak of 11 consecutive from December 17 through January 27.
  • Berube ranks second in the NEC in blocked shots at 1.8 bpg, trailing only Merrimack's Denia Davis-Stewart (4.2 bpg). 
  • She is also among the top-10 in the league in scoring (12.0 ppg), rebounding (8th | 6.6 rpg), field goal percentage (7th | 46.3%), free-throw shooting (10th | 73.2%).
  • Collectively, the Blue Devils are averaging 56.5 points per game and giving up close to 70.0 points a contest (68.8 ppg)
  • CCSU is the conference's second-most efficient team at the free-throw line, shooting 74.2 percent from the charity stripe. 
  • As a whole, the Blue Devils ranks third in blocked shots per game, averaging nearly 4.0 a contest (3.8 bpg). 


Turning It Over... 
  • Wagner ranks in among the top-50 in the country in turnovers forced.
  • Entering Friday's contest with CCSU, the Seahawks are averaging 18.8 turnovers forced, which ranks third in the Northeast Conference (NEC). ​​​​​​​
  • Alcorn State leads the nation at 27.08 while the Colonials of Robert Morris lead at 21.3. 


Friday Night Seahawks...
  • A rare Friday tip, this will be Wagner's first and only game played on a Friday this season.
  • Under head coach Heather Jacobs, the Seahawks are just 2-5 in games played on Friday.
  • The last win came back on Friday, December 21, 2019, when the Seahawks bested Staten Island (CSI), 86-59, at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • The first Friday victory came on December 29, 2017, when the Green & White went up to Bryant and left Smithfield, RI with a 75-66 win.

  • Wagner is 4-6 over its last ten contests.
  • Sophomore Emilija Krista Grava is pacing the offense, scoring 16.2 ppg while corralling 5.6 rpg in  29.5 minutes. 
  • The Green & White have forced opponents into 19.2 turnovers over the last ten games, good for a +1.7 turnover margin.​​​​​​​


At Spiro:
  • Wagner is 7-5 at the Spiro Sports Center this season and 3-4 in conference games at home. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging 62.4 ppg at home this season, shooting the ball at a 37.8 percent clip from the field while hitting on 33.1 percent from the outside. 
  • The Green & White holds a 161-140 edge on the offensive glass.
  • Krista Grava and junior Khaleah Edwards led the Seahawk offense inside the Spiro Sports Center, with Krista Grava pouring in 16.7 ppg while Edwards is next at 11.9 a contest.
  • Edwards and Krista Grava are averaging 6.3 and 6.1 rebounds a game, respectively. 
  • Edwards has made 25 threes at home this season, converting at 43.1 percent clip.  
  • Freshman Alex Cowan who has added 8.5 ppg in 32.3 minutes per game, has dished out 3.5 assists throughout the home slate.

  • The Seahawks will embark on their final road trips of the regular season beginning on Sunday, February 21, as they will head across the Verrazzano Bridge to square off with St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, February 23 in a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
  • The Green & White will remain on the road with a 2:00 p.m. start at LIU on February 29 and concluded the road swing at Fairleigh Dickinson on March 2.
