Somerset, NJ –
Senior Jonathan Besselink of the Wagner men's cross-country team earned his second straight Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, presented by Certified Financial Services.

For Besselink, this marks his third Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade, as he also garnered the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors last spring. For the Seahawks, this marks the 26th time a Wagner student-athlete has earned this recognition, with Besselink becoming the program's first-ever three-time winner.

This November, Besselink helped guide the Wagner men's cross-country team to the program's first ever league title, as the veteran harrier garnered his second straight all-league citation after crossing the finish line fifth at this year's championship meet with a time of 25:46.0.

Besslink concluded his cross-country tenure when he competed in his fourth NCAA Division Northeast Regional, placing among the top-50 out of 268 competitors with a time of 29:53.6. The newly-minted two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient also competed in his first-ever Pre-National Invitational back in October, in which he finished among the top-30 with a time of 25:42.4.

Now a four-time Fall Academic and Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Besselink concluded the fall semester with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.915 while working towards a degree in Business Administration.
