Moon Township, PA – The Wagner College men's basketball will look to get back on track this Saturday, as the Seahawks conclude the annual Western Pennsylvania trip with a matchup at Robert Morris, with tip-off set at 1 pm.
Last Time Out
The Seahawks held Saint Francis U to 30 points and just 31.4% shooting from the field in the first half, but couldn't hold on to a 38-30 halftime advantage, as the Red Flash pulled away for an 80-62 victory on Thursday night.
Morales Making Noise
Junior
Alex Morales recorded a season-high 22 points against the Red Flash, his second 20-point performance of the season. The junior has been one of the Seahawks' most consistent scorers, contributing 10 or more points in 11 of 14 games this season, while dishing out at least one assist every game. On the year, Morales averages 14.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per contest.
Iron Man
Junior
Chase Freeman played 35 of 40 minutes at Saint Francis U on Saturday, once again playing a majority of the contest. Coming into the week, the junior point guard led the Northeast Conference (NEC) with an average of 35.80 minutes per game. Freeman has also shown tremendous efficiency while on the court, as his assist/turnover ration of 2.2 was second in the league entering week two of conference play.
Mixing It Up
Head Coach
Bashir Mason used his eighth different starting lineup of the season on Thursday night against the Red Flash. Overall, ten Seahawks have seen at least one start this year. Mason opened conference play with the same starting lineup in consecutive games, but switched it up for the road contest at SFU.
Cobb Filling Up The Stat Sheet
Cobb recorded his third 25+ point scoring effort of the year last Thursday, finishing with 25 in the Seahawks' 66-47 win over the Mount. He hit 5-8 from three-point territory and snared six boards. Cobb entered the week third in the NEC with 17.5 points per game, but also led the league in free throw percentage coming into Thursday night, connecting on 24 of 27(.889) attempts from the charity stripe so far this year.
The Series
The Seahawks and the Colonials are meeting for the 77th time with Robert Morris holding a 46-30 edge in the head-to-head series, which includes two wins over the Seahawks last season. Wagner has won seven of the last ten meetings between the schools and saw a three-game winning streak over the Colonials end in last season's initial meeting between the schools. Those three straight wins for the Seahawks all came two years ago when Wagner swept the two-game regular season matchups before knocking off RMU in the 2018 NEC Tournament's semifinal round at the Spiro Sports Center
Scouting The Colonials
Robert Morris is the lone NEC team still undefeated in conference play, coming in with a 3-0 mark after victories over CCSU, Merrimack, and St. Francis Brooklyn. The 7-9 Colonials are led by Josh Williams' 14.9 points per game. At home, RMU comes into the weekend with a 3-1 record.
Alumni Day Set For January 18
The Seahawks' annual Basketball Alumni Day event will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2020, when Wagner hosts St. Francis Brooklyn for a doubleheader at the Spiro Sports Center.
