Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College men's basketball team will open Northeast Conference (NEC) play and the 2020 calendar year with a road contest at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday night at 7 pm.
Conference Slate Begins
Thursday's matchup kicks off NEC play for Wagner. With the addition of Merrimack to the NEC, this year's regular season conference slate will feature 18 games in a two-month stretch, with the NEC tournament scheduled for March 4-10.
Wagner head coach
Bashir Mason has led the Seahawks to a berth in the NEC Tournament in each of his seven seasons at the helm of the Seahawk program. As a program, the Green & White have nine consecutive NEC Tournament appearances.
Cobb Named Prime Performer
Graduate student
Curtis Cobb III led the Seahawks with 19 points on 8-18 shooting in Saturday's loss against Fairfield, going up against his former team. For his performance, Cobb was recognized by the conference as a Prime Performer.
Scouting The Mountaineers
Mount St. Mary's enters the matchup with a 4-9 overall record and 3-2 home mark. Last Friday, the Mount snapped a four-game losing streak with a 79-55 victory over Coppin State. Junior Jalen Gibbs leads the Mountaineers with 13 points per game.
Beating The Buzzer
The Seahawks and Mountaineers split the season series last year, with Wagner winning the contest in Emmitsburg in dramatic fashion. Redshirt senior guard
Romone Saunders dribbled the length of the court before hitting a buzzer-beating runner in the lane, setting off a wild Seahawk celebration and capping a gritty and determined 58-56 come-from-behind victory on February 16.
