Moraga, CA - With the completion of a three-game homestand, the Wagner College women's soccer team travels to the West Coast, as the Green & White tangles with the Saint Mary's (CA) Gaels on Sunday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium in Moraga, CA.
LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
- Wagner and the visiting University of Rhode Island Rams played to a 0-0 tie to end the first half but the Rams were able to break the stalemate in the 56th minute as the Seahawks dropped a 1-0 decision to URI on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field
- Rhode Island controlled the momentum early in the second half, sending a pair of shots high over the net, with one coming from Tali O'Leary, who received the pass from Brooke Cavino on the give-and-go in the 52'.
- The visitors broke through in the 56' as Kelly Fitzgerald lofted a long pass into the box and Cavino was able to track it down and getting away from two Seahawk defenders before beating Beck with a shot to the back left of the net in putting URI ahead, 1-0.
- Senior Autumn Clark led the Seahawks with four shots on the afternoon, with two going on goal.
- Sophomore forward Luisa Barone and senior tri-captain, Maria Nunez, combined for three shots with one shot from Barone finding the target.
- Senior goalkeeper, Delaney Beck made five stops in the contest.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Sunday's contest between Wagner and Saint Mary's is the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE WEST COAST CONFERENCE (WCC):
- In its program history, Wagner is 1-0-0 all-time against the current members of the West Coast Conference (WCC).
- Back on August 21, 2010, the Seahawks squared off against the University of Pacific and defeated the Tigers, 1-0.
WEST COAST SEAHAWKS:
- Sunday's match in Moraga, CA will be a "homecoming" of sorts for two members of the Seahawks.
- Taylor and Teagan Wasserman grew up in Huntington Beach, CA, which is a six-hour drive North to Moraga where Saint Mary's (CA) College is located.
LONG DISTANCE:
- When Wagner and Saint Mary's square off on Sunday, it will be the furthest distance traveled by the Green & White in nine years.
- These two programs are 2,901.3 miles apart.
- Back in 2010, the Seahawks faced the University of Pacific and the University of Hawai'i in Honolulu, HI, on the campus of the Rainbow Wahine.
- Wagner traveled 4,952 miles back in 2010 as the trip marked the first time the Seahawks traveled that far West.
ABOUT SAINT MARY'S (CA):
- The Gaels enter play with a 2-3 overall record after defeating California Baptist, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at home.
- Saint Mary's Jaylen Crim broke a scoreless tie when she blasted a shot into the right corner of the net after receiving the feed from teammates Jordyn Cunningham and Kamryn Farro in the 40'.
- Kaytlin Brinkman scored the second goal of the match after she was able to get past a pair of CBU defenders and headed the ball past the keeper after getting the cross from Cunningham, who was set up by goalkeeper, Maleah Milner.
- Milner made eight stops on the night.
- Crim leads the squad with two goals and five points while Cunningham and Farro each have a team-best two helpers.
- Milner has started in all five matches thus far this season for Saint Mary's, giving up seven goals while recording 15 saves on the season.
