Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's soccer team returns home to Hameline Field on Sunday afternoon to play host to the Iona College Gaels in a 3:00 p.m fixture.
LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
- Wagner closed out a two-match road trip on Thursday evening, as they took on Binghamton in Vestal, NY.
- The Seahawks and Bearcats were even through the first half of play before Binghamton struck for what turned out to be the game-winner in the 51st minute, defeating the Seahawks, 1-0, in non-conference action.
- Wagner freshman goalkeeper, Erin Kelly, recorded nine saves in the match.
- Graduate transfer, Mariana Jaramillo, took a team-high three shots, with one finding its way on target.
- Junior Mya Donnelly had two shots in the fixture while classmate Le'la Allen and freshman Jordyn Price each had a shot on goal.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Sunday's contest marks the 13th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Gaels holding a 6-4-2 advantage in the head-to-head series.
- Wagner is just 1-3-1 over their last five meetings against Iona.
- The last time the Seahawks defeated Iona was August 24, 2014, a 1-0 triumph on Staten Island.
- The Seahawks are 4-2 all-time against the New Rochelle based school in games played on Grymes Hill.
SAME FACE, NEW PLACE:
- Sunday's tilt between Wagner and Iona will be a familiar one for one Seahawk player.
- Mariana Jaramillo played her first four years in New Rochelle for the Gaels, ranking third on Iona's all-time career shots list (123) and sixth with 45 shots on goal.
- Through six games for Wagner, five of which she has started, Jaramillo has one goal and two points, with the goal coming in the opening minutes of the season opener at Rider (August 23).
ABOUT IONA:
- The Gaels, who enter play at 1-5-1, were selected tenth overall in the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Sunday's match with Wagner marks Iona's third matchup against a Northeast Conference (NEC), as Iona fell to Bryant (2-1) in the season opener and 4-0 back on September 5 on the road at Central Connecticut.
- The Gaels will face one more NEC school, St. Francis Brooklyn, on Wednesday, September 18, in New Rochelle.
- Faith Preziosi leads the team with seven points through the team's first seven games, as she has recorded a team-high three goals and added an assist.
- Amber Crispin is the squad's second-leading scorer, notching two goal thus far. Ciara Guglielmo and Mackenzie Meixner each have two assists to lead Iona.
- In goal, Emma Havrilla has started in all seven games, recording 29 saves while giving up 12 goals. Angelina Decicco has appeared in three matches, allowing five goals while recording five saves.
