ACWPC All American Release

2019 Final Statistics

Bridgeport, PA – Senior Erica Hardy and freshman Sofia Diaz Alvarez were each named Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Honorable Mention All-American selections, the organization announced on Thursday.

Both Hardy and Diaz Alvarez played significant roles in leading the Seahawks to their conference-record sixth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship, sixth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, a program-record 30 victories (30-10 overall, 14-1 MAAC), and a No. 19 ranking in the final Collegiate Water Polo (CWPA) Poll. For Hardy, who was tabbed MAAC Offensive Player of the Year last month, this marks the second consecutive season that she has been named an ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention. Diaz Alvarez, who was tabbed MAAC Rookie of the Year, becomes the first freshman in Seahawk history to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Overall, Hardy finished second in the MAAC in assists (80), third in goals (87) and led the league in points (167). In MAAC regular season play, she ranked second in points (65), and fourth in assists (32). Additionally, the biopsychology major earned a spot on the 2019 MAAC All-Academic Team.

Sofia Diaz Alvarez, in addition to becoming Wagner's first-ever freshman All-American, is also the fifth Seahawk to claim MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. The first-year Seahawk led Wagner with 109 goals and was second on the team in total points with 171. A five-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, the Madrid, Spain native, became the first Seahawk freshman to score 100 goals in a season.

"I am extremely proud of both Erica and Sofia for being selected as All-Americans," said three-time MAAC Coach of the Year Chris Radmonovich. "For Erica to be selected for a second consecutive year is just a phenomenal achievement as is Sofia becoming Wagner's first freshman All-American. Each of them are hard-working student-athletes, outstanding ambassadors for our program, and extremely deserving of these honors."
