Charlottesville, VA – The Wagner College baseball team dropped the series-opener to the Virginia Cavaliers, 14-0, at Disharoon Park. The Seahawks moved to 1-9, while the Cavaliers improved to 6-5.

The Cavaliers got on the board first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Zack Gelof earned a leadoff walk and promptly stole second. Tanner Morris ripped a double down the right field line to plate the first run. Brendan Rivoli followed up with a RBI grounder to second that brought home Morris for the second run of the frame.

Seahawk starter, McCae Allen, was able to keep Virginia off the board as he worked around a bases loaded threat by getting Alex Tappen to ground to short in ending the threat.

Following a scoreless second, the Cavaliers added two more runs in upping its lead to 4-0. Nate Eikhoff was able to single through the right side that plated Cameron Simmons, who opened the frame with single. The next batter, Logan Michaels, was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for Tappen, who was also hit, bringing in the fourth run of the game.

Virginia ignited a five-run fourth in extending its lead to 9-0. Morris led off the UVA inning with a solo home run to right field. Three straight hits loaded the bases for Eikhoff, who grounded out to second for the first out but brought in Rivoli. Back-to-back singles and a bases loaded walk resulted in three more runs as the Cavaliers went ahead, 9-0. The Cavaliers added one run in the fifth, three runs in the sixth, and another in the seventh on their way to a 14-0 victory.

Senior center fielder Joe Silvestrone tallied a team-high two hits, and senior shortstop Anthony Pecora and junior Freddy Sabido collected a hit apiece.

The Seahawks and Cavaliers continue their series tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5. First pitch at Disharoon Park is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
