No. 15 Seahawks Go 2-0 To Remain Undefeated In MAAC Play

Staten Island, NY – The No. 15 Wagner women's water polo team (19-7; 4-0) remains unbeaten in Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play after defeating VMI (19-6) and La Salle (26-4) on Saturday in the Spiro Sports Center.

Wagner 19, VMI 6:
The Green & White had control of the game from the beginning, taking a 4-0 lead at the end of the first stanza.

Sophomore Daisy Nankervis and junior Jacqui Sjogren led the squad offensively, registering six and five goals, respectively. Senior Erica Hardy scored a hat trick for the Seahawks while freshman and reigning Rookie of the Week Sofia Diaz Alvarez totaled two goals of her own.

Redshirt junior Kristy Donkin, sophomore Savannah Henshaw and sophomore Serena Thurman each found the back of the net once apiece.

Donkin also dished out four assists while sophomore Katherine Campbell made three saves in the 19-6 victory over the Keydets.

Wagner 26, La Salle 4:
Again, the Green & White were a force to be reckoned with from the jump, taking a 12-1 lead by the end of the first half.

Two Seahawks in Diaz Alvarez and Sjogren each contributed 5 goals apiece. Freshman Kristen Sacyznski was not far behind, scoring four goals of her own for a career high.

Nankervis also found the back of the net four times, followed by Henshaw who tallied three goals.

Hardy added six points on two goals and four assists while Josephson, freshman Philippa Nash and sophomore Erin Weisert all totaled one tally apiece.

Goalies Campbell and freshman Mikaela Wells each made one and five saves, respectively in the cage.

On Sunday, the Seahawks compete against Siena at 9:00 a.m. before concluding the weekend against Villanova at 4:30 p.m.

The 4:30 p.m. game against the Wildcats will serve as senior day for the Green & White, as we recognize the accomplishments of six graduating seniors in Abby Irving, Natalie Kayton, Sarah Limanni, Katelyn Traut, Kristy Donkin and Erica Hardy.
