Little Silver, NJ – The Wagner College men's tennis team fell to the Monmouth University Hawks, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Little Silver Tennis Club.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 1-1 in dual matches this season while the Hawks picked up its first dual victory of the season.

Lucas Gonzalez kicked things off for the visitors as the duo bested the Monmouth pairing of Srdjan Jakovljevic and Will Cooke Wharton, 6-1, in No. 2 doubles. Monmouth responded at No. 1 as Nicola Pipoli and Alberto Giuffrida held off the Seahawk seniors in
Dale Sandy and
Anatoliy Lashkul, 6-2.
In a spirited No. 3 match, senior
Ilya Kneppelhout and junior
Hans Ohrner fought valiantly before falling, 6-3, to Max Benaim and Sergio Martinez, which gave Monmouth a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Monmouth took five of the six singles matches in preserving the victory. Ohrner picked up his 37th singles victory at No. 5, earning a thrilling, 2-6, 6-4, 10-2 triumph over Martinez. For the junior Seahawk, it moves him to third on the all-time career singles wins list (since the 2005-06 season), one win ahead of current teammates Lashkul, Kneppelhout and Sandy.
