Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College men's tennis team earned its first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory of the season, defeating the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 6-1, at the McCarren Tennis Center on Saturday evening.

With the win, the Seahawks move to 2-1 overall in dual matches while SFBK fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in league contests.

The Green & White earned the first point in the match after outlasting St. Francis Brooklyn in three, grueling doubles matches. Graduate transfer Lucas Gonzalez and junior Dylan Walters kicked off doubles action with a 6-2 victory over Daniel Blasco and Grant Louis at No. 3.

Seniors Ilya Kneppelhout and Eric Poland earned a 6-3 triumph over Pablo Blasco-Torres and Guillermo Artiz to secure the point. At No. 1, classmates Anatoliy Lashkul and Dale Sandy garnered a gritty, 6-4, win over Alejandro Ridruejo and Tomas Dirube.

In singles action, Walters earned his seventh win of the season, besting Dirube, 6-3; 6-0 at No. 2. Lashkul earned his 37th all-time singles win, as he defeated Ridruejo (6-1; 6-0) at No. 1. Wagner claimed the match at No. 3 as Gonzalez picked up his first dual match win in a Seahawk uniform, besting Artiz, 6-2; 6-2.

St. Francis Brooklyn's lone victory came at No. 4, as Daniel Blasco edged out junior Hans Ohrner, 6-4; 6-3.

Poland collected his 49th career singles victory and his eighth all-time win at No. 5, after outlasting Stefan Gmijovic, 7-5; 7-6 (7). Poland is one victory shy of becoming just the second men's tennis player since 2005, to amass 50 career singles wins, as he would join former teammate, Charlton Boyd, who racked up 75 career wins (2014-18).

The Green & White will travel to Queens College on February 23 to close out the month.
