Hempstead, NY – Alyssa Parrella scored seven goals and Alexa Mattera added five as the Hofstra women's lacrosse team defeated Wagner 17-4 on Tuesday afternoon at James M. Stuart Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks, who were coming off a 14-4 win over Iona last Wednesday, fall to 1-2 on the season while the Pride, who compete in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), improve to 2-1.
After Hofstra opened the game with six consecutive goals, the Seahawks responded with two consecutive tallies. At the 9:43 left mark of the opening half, sophomore midfielder
Madeline Seims buried a free position shot to put Wagner on the board.
Then, with 7:36 remaining before the half, another sophomore midfielder,
Victoria Tucci, notched an unassisted goal to make it a 6-2 game.
The Pride then answered with its second 6-0 run of the half in taking a 12-2 lead at the intermission en route to the victory.
Seims and Tucci each scored one goal in the second half as well as sophomore midfield combination accounted for all four of the Seahawks' goals. In addition to her two goals, Seims came up with a team-best four draw controls on the afternoon.
Defensively, senior
Maddie Courtney registered team highs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. In goal, reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Fee recorded six saves.
Wagner is now now 0-3 all-time against Hofstra. The Pride defeated the Seahawks, 15-10, at Hameline field last season.
The Green & White are next in action on Friday, March 1 when the Seahawks travel to Quinnipiac of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) with first draw set for 3:00 p.m.
