Staten Island, NY – It was a busy first day on Grymes Hill for new head football coach Tom Masella, who held his first team meeting before being formally introduced to the public at a press conference at the Spiro Sports Center.

"Coming back home for me -  it couldn't be any better," said Masella. "This is home, it always has been […] For me, I'm Staten Island through and through and Wagner College is a big part of that."
Prior to Masella, Wagner College president Dr. Joel W. Martin gave his remarks on Masella's hiring with the media. "We really welcome you Tom, it's going to be great to work with you, support you. We have great faculty who support our athletes, great student-affairs officers, everybody is on the same team here."

Wagner College athletic director Walt Hameline also shared his enthusiasm about Masella: "The message I'm sending is that he knows what it takes to win. He cares about student-athletes, he keeps things in the right perspective. He's a winner, he's very competitive. I know he'll direct his staff and our program in a very professional way and at the end of the day, we will win football games. It'll be because of hard work and enthusiasm and getting things going the right way. I'm excited, I'm pumped up. We've made a change and this guy is going to take us in the right direction and get this program the way it should be: winning football games."
The event was attended by Masella's family, members of the media, alumni, as well as the Wagner College community. Former Seahawk head men's basketball coach and current Brooklyn Nets analyst Tim Capstraw served as the emcee for the press conference.

Masella will use the upcoming days to meet with current players, finalize his staff, and focus on recruiting.
