Men’s Water Polo Set To Compete At MAWPC Championships

Lewisburg, PA – The No. 5 seed, Wagner College men's water polo team gears up for this weekend's Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship as they open the tournament against the No. 4 seed, Navy Midshipmen, on Friday, November 22 at 4:30 p.m. from the Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell Univeristy. The Seahawks will be joined by the other five members of the MAWPC East-Region as well as the MAWPC-West Region champions, Gannon University.

Tournament Seeding...

The Green & White finished MAWPC East play with a 4-8 conference mark, with half of those setbacks coming by two goals or fewer.
 
The host Bison is the No. 1 seed after claiming the regular-season crown with a 10-2 conference record. 
 
Fordham and George Washington finished the year tied at 9-3 but it will be the Rams who are the two-seed and the Colonials the three-seed after going through the league's tiebreaker procedure with Fordham having a better goal-differential against Bucknell. 
 
Johns Hopkins will be the sixth seed followed by Gannon and rounding out the eight-team field is La Salle. 

Tournament Schedule...
The Green & White will play a total of three games throughout the tournament. If the Seahawks defeat Navy, they will play the winner of Game 1 between Bucknell/La Salle on Saturday at 4:30 pm. 
 
However, if Wagner is to fall to Navy, they will face the loser of Game 1 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
 
The championship match is set for Sunday between the two remaining undefeated teams at 1:30 p.m.

About Navy...
The Midshipmen enter the weekend donning an overall record of 14-12. Navy dropped its last four matches in finishing the conference slate at 6-6.  Navy fell to the Seahawks, 13-12, in double overtime, 11-6 to Fordham and 14-10 to Bucknell on November 9 and 10. 
 
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two programs with each squad picking up a win. All-Time, Wagner leads the series, 6-3. Navy, however, has won two of the last three contests. 
 
The Midshipmen is led by sophomore attacker Isaac Salinas, who netted 79 goals and swiped 29 steals. Bobby Lee (34) and Trevor Clark (30) each surpassed the 30-goal plateau this year. 
 
In goal, both senior Ronan Williams and sophomore Max Sandberg have appeared in 16 games, with Williams pacing the team with a .475 save percentage. Sandberg has recorded a team-high 131 saves. 

Tickets...
Fans attending the MAWPC Championship can pay for either a three-day tournament pass ($25) or a one-day pass ($10). All children 12 and under are free of charge. All tickets are exclusively available at the door as there will be no presale in advance of the championship.

Streaming...
For fans unable to make the trip to MIT for the championship, the MAWPC is offering live-streaming of the weekend on a pay-per-view basis through Stretch Internet. Fans can access the stream CLICKING HERE. The cost of viewership is $10 per game or $25 for the weekend tournament package that includes all the contested games. Also, fans can access the stream until July following the conclusion of the tournament.

NCAA Tournament at Stake...
The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Water Polo Championship being held at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex on the campus of the University of the Pacific's from December 7-8. 
 
The MAWPC is one of five men's water polo conferences competing this weekend with an automatic berth at stake. Also, two at-large bids will be up-for-grabs to complete the seven-team field.

About the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference...
The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference is in its fourth year of existence under the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). A member of the East Region, Wagner is joined by longtime Eastern Division foes Bucknell, Navy, Johns Hopkins, La Salle, and George Washington as well as ex-Northern Division member, Fordham.
