Philadelphia, PA – The Wagner men's water polo team (4-20; 3-6 MAWPC) downed the La Salle Explorers (6-18; 1-9 MAWPC) on Friday evening, scoring a season high 25 goals and improving their series record to 5-0 over the Explorers.
The Seahawks and Explorers battled tightly in the first period, before eventually ending the quarter tied at five goals apiece. Wagner found early offense from
Vuk Bulajic, and
Jordi Alonso, before three unanswered goals from
Matthew Miller would knot the game up at 5-5 entering the second stanza.
The second quarter would be all Wagner, as they scored eight goals and held La Salle scoreless. Miller would start the period's scoring with his fourth goal of the night, before four other Seahawks added to the score sheet, including four goals from Bulajic, and a single goal apiece from Alonso,
Aaron Leighton, and Olivér Fodor. The teams would enter the locker room with the Green & White leading 13-5.
In the second half, La Salle's Cole Strohson and Tyler Williams answered with a goal each, after 11 straight Seahawk tallies, to get the Explorers back on the board.
Fodor responded quickly for the Seahawks, notching his second goal of the game only 22 seconds later, beginning a seven-goal unanswered stretch for the Green & White. Bulajic would add two more goals to his tally during this run, he was accompanied by Leighton,
Shaked Yacoby,
Ben Zovickian, and Sam Del Rio, who each added a single goal and increased Wagner's lead to 20-7 with 5:47 remaining in fourth quarter.
In the final minutes, Del Rio would record three more goals for the Seahawks, while
Tristan O'Connell notched his first goal of the season and
Jackson Williams scored his first career Wagner goal, helping the Green & White to a 25-10 victory.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool next weekend to wrap up their regular season. They begin on Saturday with their second contest of the season against the Navy Midshipmen at 11:00 am in Annapolis, before a short drive to Washington, D.C. to take on the George Washington Colonials at 5:00 pm. The Seahawks will end the weekend against Johns Hopkins on Sunday at 3:00 pm in Baltimore, MD.
