Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College field hockey team fell to the Rider University Brocns, 4-1, in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener on Friday afternoon at the Wagner Field Hockey Complex.

The Broncs (4-1; 1-0 NEC) were led by the tandem of Carly Brosious and Julia DiVorra, who combined for six of Rider's eight shots on goal and three of the four goals. Accompanying them on the scoresheet are Tess Coorens and Tess van Ommeren with a goal and an assist, respectively. In goal, Lena Vandem allowed only one goal while playing a full 60 minutes in net.

Wagner (1-6; 0-1 NEC) midfielder Frederique Soons tallied the lone goal of the game for the Green & White, her first career tally. Hannah Meyer recorded a team-best four shots. In goal, the Green & White split time between Annabel Zandvoort and Justine van Spengler, as both allowed a pair of goals and combined for three saves.

The Seahawks were outshot, 15-6, in the contest but did well defensively to only allow three live action goals.

They begin by taking on the LIU Sharks on Friday, October 11at 4:00 p.m. and conclude the road trip on Sunday, October 13 in Smithfield, RI against the Bryant Bulldogs at noon.
