Boston, MA – After being held to only two first half goals, Wagner men's water polo fell to the No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers 15-7 to wrap up the Harvard Invite.
No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn 15, Wagner 7
The Terriers offense was firing on all cylinders in the third matchup of the season between the two schools. They notched their first goal only 38 seconds into the match, before extending it to a 2-0 lead a couple of minutes later.
Vuk Bulajic would respond quickly for the Seahawks, getting Wagner on the board 18 seconds later, and after another SFC goal, junior Sam Del Rio recorded his first career goal to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the next six goals would all be scored by St. Francis Brooklyn, as they held the Green & White scoreless until the third period when senior
Matthew Miller stopped the run and set the score at 9-3.
From that point on, the game was a pretty back and forth affair, as SFC scored six second half goals, only slightly edging the Seahawks 5. At the final whistle, the Terriers would leave with a 15-7 victory.
The Terriers were led by a pair of hat tricks from attackers Nikola Nikolic and Matin Alamzai. Four other SFC swimmers, Ricardo Berenguer, Boris Posavec, Vladimir Mickic, and Dominick Hevesi, would record two goals apiece, while Alexander Teplitsky recorded a single goal.
Wagner was led by junior driver
Nicolas Butelet's two goals, along with five other Seahawks who would find the back of the net once, including Bulajic, Del Rio, Miller,
Jordi Alonso, and
Lachlan Trabinger.
