Staten Island, NY – Wagner head baseball coach
Jim Carone announced on Friday afternoon that baseball alumnus and current outfielder in the Seattle Mariners organization,
Ian Miller, will be the guest of honor for the 2nd Annual First Pitch Banquet, which will take place at 5:00 p.m. on January 26, 2019 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Staten Island.
Miller,
the 2017 Ken Griffey Jr. Minor League Hitter of the Year as announced by the Mariners back on September 13, 2017, is a two-time all-Northeast Conference (NEC) honoree, who just concluded his sixth season within the Mariners organization, finishing 2018 at Triple-A Tacoma.
He also suited up for the
Peoria Javelinas in the prestigious Arizona Fall League and, more recently, for the Tomateros de Culiacan of the Mexican Pacific Winter League, where he helped his the team to a first-place finish with 37-27 record.
For Tomateros de Culiacan, Miller batted .266 with four doubles, two triples, a home run and 11 RBIs in 26 games. A threat on the basepaths throughout his career, Miller was third on the squad with six steals while being caught just once. He concluded the MWL with a .700 OPS.
Miller, who became the fourth Wagner baseball alumn to compete in the Arizona Fall League, appeared in 18 games for the Javelinas, connecting on two home runs and drew 11 walks. This past season for Tacoma, Miller appeared in 114 games, and batted .261 with 41 RBIs and 33 stolen bases, which was good for second in the entire Pacific Coast League (PCL).
Prior to the start of the 2018 season, Miller was among
22 non-roster players invited to Mariners Spring Training, the fourth straight season that he has earned an invitation, after appearing in 13 spring training games in 2017, when he stole five bases in six chances.
Miller still ranks second on the Wagner all-time stolen base list with 93 steals, 46 of which came during the 2013 campaign when the Downingtown, PA native was second in the entire NCAA in this category.
