Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team (6-5; 3-0 MAWPC) bested No. 18 George Washington, the defending MAWPC Champions, on Saturday evening at Spiro Sports Center with a final score of 14-11.
The two teams battled throughout each of the four quarters as the Colonials (9-4; 1-1 MAWPC) led the Seahawks after the first eight minutes of play with a score of 2-1. Junior driver
Oscar Nomura scored his first of four goals on the night to kickstart the Green & White offense.
In the second stanza, there were back and forth goals, ending in a 7-6 lead at the half in favor of Wagner on goals from junior utility
Lachlan Trabinger, senior utility
Devin O'Donnell, and a whopping three goals from Nomura.
Freshman utility
Vuk Bulajic registered his first goal of the night to begin the third period, followed by two goals from sophomore driver
Jasmin Kolasinac and one goal from senior driver
Teo Dadic.
Kolasinac found the back of the net with just one second remaining in the third stanza followed by another goal to begin the fourth and final period, giving the Seahawks a 12-10 advantage.
Bulajic rallied off his second of the game before sophomore left
Jack Leighton tallied an insurance goal with only 1:30 remaining in the game.
The Colonials were able to tack on one final goal before falling short, as Wagner prevailed over its conference foe with a final score of 14-11.
Defensively, senior goalie
Cameron Woldt had a solid performance in the cage, blocking 10 shots on goal.
The Seahawks are back in action on October 6-7 as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Bucknell and La Salle.
